Venerable Entajoot Sopharith Yi

Venerable Entajoot Sopharith Yi was born on Monday March 2, 1969 in Trea Sor Village, Khna Sor Commune of Srey Santhor District, Kompong Cham Province to father Yi Proeung and mother Ohk Vann. Both his parents have past away.

Venerable Soparith Yi is one of 9 siblings, consisting of 5 girls and 4 boys. When he was 12, he felt a connection with Buddhism and went to live in the monastery, serving Venerable Chan Yaut of Wat Um Pil at Khna Sor Commune of Srey Santhor District, Kompong Cham Province for approximately a year. At 13 years of age, he returned to live with his parents and continued his studies in Trea Sor Village, completing both elementary and middle schools within 5 years. He

later went to Sreay Santhor high school in Kompong Cham Province and on the day of finals, as he approached the test center, he decided to devote his life to Buddhism, first residing with and serving Ven. Chea Chorm. He was later ordained as a novice monk in Wat Khna on July 15, 1989 under Sai Siang, head monk of the Sreay Santhor District in Kompong Cham Province. When he was 20 years old, he was ordained as a monk in Wat Pteah Kandal on Thursday, February 14, 1990 under Chuattormto Sin Sim, head monk of Kompong Cham Province.

He later studied Buddhist chants and doctrines for 3 years while residing with Ven. Achadilaeng. After have having passed his dimploma, he started to studied Buddhism history, philosophy and doctrines. In 1995, while Wat Kdeay Kraow Trea Sor was being constructed, Ven. Sopharith Yi went to study Pali at Wat Bothi Mang Kul (Praek Bpo) for a year but later returned to Wat Trea Sor to finish his studies in Pali, all the while supervising the monastery. On March 19, 1996 the Board of the Directors and the head monk of Sreay Santhor had a ceremony to promote him to be one of two assistant head monks at Wat Kdeay Kraow Trea Sor and was asked to help with Ven Chea Chorm to help coordinate and oversee the constructions of: Preah Vihear, Monk Residential Halls, School for Ceremonies, Wells, (Srah Dteuk), Bridges and Roads, Shools for the monks…etc all over Cambodia. On May 25, 2001, Ven. Chea Chorm was asked to come to the states and Ven. Sopharith Yi was installed as head monk of Trea Sor. During that time, he established a school for both preserving and teaching Pali and for teaching school children during. On 2004, Ven Soparith Yi was installed as 3rd head monk of Trea Santhor Disrict.

On July 30, 2004 Ven. Soparith Yi was asked by Ven Chea Chhorm and Ms. Sarin Roth (President of Cambodian Society) come to the states. Currently Ven. Soparith Yi resides in Wat Dhamagosnaram.
