Venerable Suntohn Chuon was born on August 12, 1942 in Borjaka Village, Bpailin Commune, Ratanak Mundul District, Battambang Province to father Churn Pohn and mother Kroach Bpol. Venerable Suntohn Chuon is one of 4 siblings, consisting of 2 girls and 2 boys.
When he was a child, his parents encouraged him to study at Wat Kowng Kang in Bpailin Commune, Ratanak Mundul District, Battambang Province. At 13, he was ordained as a novice monk (samanera) by Venerable Lok Sane, at Wat Kowng Kang. He remained a monk until he was 16 years old, at which time he left the monastery to seek a layman’s life as a miner. He resided with his parents until he married at the age of 23.

As a layman, Mr. Suntohn had 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys. In 1975 he left Battambang Province to live in Kamput Village, situated near the Thai border. He and his family resided there for 3 years until September 9, 1979 when they immigrated to the states. Having to start anew, he worked for 13 years to support his family as a laborer, until 1995, when he was forced to retire due to physical pain. In June 23, 1996 Venerable Suntohn had a calling to become a Buddhist monk. He was ordained by Venerable Puhn in Wat Thormikaram on Handover St. in Providence Rhode Island. In 2001, Venerable Suntohn Chuon went to reside in Wat Putmondul. In 2004, he was asked to reside in Wat Dhammagosnaram in Cranston RI.
Venerable Suntohn is one of 4 monks residing at Wat Dhammagosnaram where he serves as a board member. He is committed to Buddhism's philosophy, teachings, and doctrines and has helped with providing religious and spiritual services to the Cambodian community in Rhode Island. He has also helped with construction and charity works in Cambodia as well.
