Mission - The goals of this site are (1) to share information and educate on Buddhist teachings and philosophies, fostering tolerance, love, compassion, and kindness; (2) to showcase and display past, present, and future festivals and community events bringing the community closer together; (3) to educate and preserve Cambodian tradition & culture; and (4) to allow people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds to network and learn about Buddhism, Cambodian tradition & culture, and important issues facing Cambodian-Americans.

About Wat Dhamagosnaram - Wat Dhamagosnaram is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 by Venerable Chhorm Chea and The Board of Directors with support from the Cambodian-American citizens living in the city of Providence, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New England states. It is situated on 2870 Plainfield Pike, Cranston, RI 02921. Funding for the temple and all its care taking is solely being provided by the generosity of the local Rhode Island community and neighboring states. The temple is newly established and is in need of much help and support. If you wish to donate financially or if you have a particulary skill and you would like to donate your time, please contact The Board of Directors. Any form of support is welcomed and much appreciated.

Meaning of Wat Dhamagosnaram - Wat is a Cambodian word meaning Buddhist temple. Dhamma is the law, teaching or guidance. Gosnaram is widely publicize or universal.

Goals of Wat Dhamagosnaram - Wat Dhamagosnaram seeks a proactive role to implement a multi-sector reform in the areas of religious, educational, financial revenue and expenditure, and a whole host of other critical issue facing today's Cambodian-American community. The purposes of the Corporation are religious, educational, cultural and charitable:

  • To bring up and maintain a stable solidarity among Buddhist monks and disciples.
  • To preserve Cambodian culture and civilization throughout the world.
  • To spread and stabilize Buddhism in every Buddhist institution worldwide.
  • To facilitate communication among Buddhists inside and outside of Cambodia and United States.
  • To facilitate communication between Buddhism and other world religions.
  • To put in motion the assistance Dharma of Buddha in our human society.
  • To enable Buddhist monks in publicizing and taking care of Buddhism.
  • To maintain monastic property and make all temples legally belong to Buddhist monks.

  • Wat Dhamagosnaram is a place of refuge, providing Buddhist information, education, and cutural preservation and development of the cummunity. Although mainly serving the Cambodian community, all people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds are welcomed. To realize these goals, Wat Dhamagosnaram shall:

  • Hold meetings for those interested in Buddhism and its culture.
  • Provide for expositions of the cultural heritage of Buddhism.
  • Maintain a Buddhist library.
  • Provide facilities for the practice of meditation and other Buddhist disciplines.
  • Collect and disseminate information on Buddhism and Buddhist culture.
  • Help the younger Cambodian-American generations to be aware and be appreciative of their heritage.
  • Establish funds to provide humanitarian assistance to other non-profit or non-governmental organizations abroad for charitable and educational purposes.
  • Perpetuate the Buddhism.
  • Raise funds to adequately cover annual budget expenditures by utilizing maximum resources, skills, and services from members to their full potential.
  • Restore and promote Cambodian Buddhism and peace.
